We can now choose to have the first instruction execute on the first core, and the second instruction execute on the second core - at the same time. When multi-core processors started to show up, programming changed. When the first was done, the processor would move onto the second, etc. Once upon a time when all we had was single-core processors, programming was simple: all we needed to do was to put one instruction in front of another, and the computer would execute them in a sequence. Errors like these happen due to bad coding. This limits the game to 1 core which solves most of the crashes, and enables a custom resolution, which I have set to my monitor's default (the x32 is the color depth, just set it at that unless you want the game to look like a low-grade bitmap image).Įdit: I'm loving the downvoting of legitimate comments now that this hit r/all. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CPUcount:1 -CustomResolution:enabled -r1680x1050x32 Here are the settings I use for "Target" for the SC4 shortcut, yours might be different and if it is on steam (I have the original game disc+expansion), just add everything after the quotes to the target properties for SC4 deluxe.
Some versions also do not allow widescreen by default, and some crash constantly if set to hardware graphics rendering, or software graphics rendering (I've found software to be the most stable though, YMMV). A NOTE ON SOME VERSIONS OF THE GAME It does not play well with windows' multicore handling.
:)Ī lot of mods add to the experience though, and the custom regions the fanbase has come up with are awesome. Note that even without mods the game still holds up, for those of you not sure what you're getting into.
